Charlotte County is located on the Southwest coast of Florida with a 2017 population estimate of 182,033. The Veteran population estimate is 22,810.

The county seat is Punta Gorda, which comes from Spanish and means “Fat Point” because it sticks out into Charlotte Harbor – one of the United State’s largest natural harbors. Charlotte County is located between Sarasota to the North and Fort Myers to the South.

It’s Our Turn, Inc. hosts the annual Memorial Day Veterans 10k/5k Race, which starts and finishes in Laishley Park in Punta Gorda, Florida. Held on Monday, Memorial Day each year, the race is the organization’s biggest fundraiser. Laishley Park is a seventeen (17) acre park with amenities that include a 400 foot fishing pier, parking facilities, interactive fountain, concert area & event lawn, Veterans Memorial Garden, and walking paths along Punta Gorda Pathways – Harborwalk.  Waterfront restaurant and retail services are also available in the park at the Laishley Crab House Centre.
